RD created the topic: Baby shower stress!
I've always known and have told people I don't want a baby shower- I hate attention and fuss and games! DH and I are just going to have an afternoon bbq with our friends in a few weeks.
Trouble is my best friends and my mum both want to plan something for me. Mum is guilt tripping me a little by saying its the one time she will get to organise something like this. :-/
I'm hoping to get her off my back by taking her out somewhere and doing something nice with just the 2 of us. I've been thinking an afternoon high tea at Cornwall Park or the Britomart Country Club or something similar.

Any brilliant ideas?

tell her you want to get a spa pedicure somewhere quiet close to your due date. You get quality time with mum, you get pampered AND those chairs can bring on labour.....

I'm exactly the same and didn't want a baby shower either, but once I confirmed this with my sister (and she cancelled what she was planning) I felt a little guilty like I wasn't celebrating that my girl was going to arrive! A few days ago my high school bestie suggested I just have a small dinner so there was still something so I booked a table and went out for Indian with 7 girls last night. Got a few gifts, talked a bit about babies (they're all mums bar one), and just generally caught up - was good! Half the guests couldn't make it but that was cool, it's what happens when you do things last minute, and I now feel like I've done something for bubs :)

Could you maybe do that instead? A celebration dinner?

For ages I had been all "oh, I dont want a girly shower", but with everything thats gone on with this pregnancy, I decided a few weeks back that actually, I really did.
So we are doing a low-key "ladies, a plate" afternoon tea at a friends house with a couple of games, but a lot of talking - and I've told people we dont need much in the way of gifts.

You could always let your Mum organise something like a high tea for a small group (or I love BVTs idea of a mani-pedi or similar), and then follow it up with the BBQ you were originally planning, which gives you both a win? You get the event you really wanted, she gets to give you a small shower and stops guilting you about it (a double win for you).

A small group high-tea, dinner out or mani-pedi also has the advantage that while you are the reason for the party, you aren't quite so much the centre of attention as much. And then the BBQ allows you to celebrate with your DH, which is nice for him - I'm trying to figure out what my DH will go and do during the couple of hours I'm at the shower...

Its a bit like a hens do I guess - there are dozens of ways to do it, so you can totally find something that suits your personality, while allowing your mum to feel she has organised something for you. good luck :)

This is what I did a friend of mine hosted and we all brought a plate ate lots of yummy food and talked lots (most of it wasn't even baby stuff) and played a couple of games. It was nice to catch up with lots of friends I hadn't seen for a while.

Being an event planner I love hosting baby shower and birthday parties. I always prefer to buy personalized baby shower favors only at www.bestpricefavors.com/product-category...shower-favors-cheap/ and this amazing site was suggested by one of my best friends. I am really thankful to her. You can shop there any party favors at amazing rates.
